SAFETY POLICIES
LAMONT-DOHERTY EARTH OBSERVATORY

The following are the electronic copies of Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory Policy on General Safe Work Practices, Columbia University Policy for Safe Use of Chemicals in Laboratories, Columbia University Radiation Policy, Columbia University Laser Safety Policy and the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory Emergency Response and Waste Disposal Guide, along with Columbia's Brochures . The leadership of the Observatory and Columbia University is dedicated to the safety and health of all personnel at the Observatory. It is our policy to provide a clean, safe and healthy working environment for our employees and guests.
It is incumbent on each individual to become familiar with the policies described in these manuals. All activities at Lamont will be conducted in compliance with the applicable Columbia University , State and Federal regulations as well as with our own internal procedures, policies and standards.
I ask that you all participate in establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. We are committed through planning, education and training to promote the personal involvement of all members of the Lamont community in these programs.
In order to insure that there is adherence to these policies routine inspections will be performed. Should compliance issues be recognized then appropriate actions to enforce the policies will be taken. See Section I-101 of this manual for further details.
